Mostly throwing stuff out!

27th March 2017
The most effective way to do it, is to do it!

Well what a productive weekend I've had, it feels so good to be clearing out the rubbish and making it tidy ready to decorate and have new carpets, we've decided we don't want the wooden floors anymore, they've begun to wear in a few places too.  Carpets a softer landing if you have a little fall and you can't hear the dog pitter pattering across your bedroom floor at stupid o'clock in the morning with carpet!

I need to accept that this isn't all going to happen overnight, I've always been impatient with stuff, when I start a project I want it done like 'NOW!' and I've got to accept that's not going to be the case, but it doesn't mean I can't get as much done as soon as possible.  Spent most of yesterday clearing out the clutter until I realised I was shattered and stopped about 4ish.  I've already done an hour in moms room this morning, can you believe I've just 3/4 filled the big paper recycle bin with crossword books - apparently she hasn't been throwing away the completed ones ;) you've gotta love her, I can't say much cos I'm as bad.  We've both agreed we're going for the minimalist look, my mantra of the moment is;

Less stuff means less to clean, less to organise, less to store, less mess

This will help me find my calm when I come home, it'll be my place to relax and that's what I want.

I know I should've probably done one room at a time but that's not me is it, let's be honest, I'm a chaotic kind of person, my bedroom will be more scruffy chic than shabby chic even when it's finished, I don't want a chest of drawers because I will never have things in there tidy, I never have and I'm not about to change my habits completely, instead I think I'll have crates to throw stuff in and put on deep shelves in the alcove, we shall see.  It's all part of the fun isn't it, the planning, can't wait to go and have a walk round Ikea to get some ideas.

As you can imagine, food hasn't been a priority, my brother came yesterday and offered to fetch us a McDonald's, when it'd be rude not to wouldn't it, out my system for another 6 months now, it's never warm enough if you don't eat it there but it filled me up and kept me going till bedtime.  I've got a delivery coming this morning - hopefully and we can have real food today, once I've tidied the kitchen which has been ignored in all the decluttering!

Anyway, I've got almost a full day ahead to do even more, my office is going to be a real challenge but one thing at a time, need rid of all the books first, then I can work my way through all the paperwork and bin what's not needed.  Can you tell I'm feeling the clear out in a big way, it's less of a declutter now and more of a house clearance!

Monday, always a good day to have a good day, catch ya tomorrow BeYOUtiful.

No time for blogging today!

26th March 2017
Being in a hurry to improve yourself only slows down the process.

Well I'm not going to be having a restful Sunday as I've got to try and get some semblance of order in my house, I've gone at it like a bull at a gate haven't I and there's chaos all around.  Nothing new there, I've always been the same and I'm trying to calm myself down and realise it doesn't all have to be done in a day!  My mission today is to finish sorting through all the stuff in my bedroom so I know exactly what I have left to 'house' as such, if I know how much 'stuff' I have, it'll give me an idea of what storage I need.  I can then decide on the layout, tried my bed in a different place last night, I like it there but Alfie is not impressed at all, he can't get on the bed without assistance because I've moved the smelly old chair out to the shed and he can't see out the window once on the bed because I've moved it away from the window.  So I'll continue to declutter whilst I think about it all and I'll try to limit my time on pinterest and ikea website because it steals time, I've been up nearly 3 hours already and done nothing but search the internet.

Mothers day then, I've just taken mom her cake bouquet, I smiled as I walked in with it and her response was exactly what I expected "I hope they ain't fkin flowers", bless her, unlike me  she's not a fan of flowers, but she does like cake so I got it right this year.  She already had her main gift as I couldn't wait to give it to her when it arrived the other week, the things I love about you book.

The thing with being preoccupied with things like I was yesterday is you forget about eating, which isn't always a good thing, as when you do remember you have something quick, we ended up with chicken sandwiches, then later we both sat eating cheerios from the box - not good!  Thankfully a very early night stopped us doing too much damage!

My brains just not fixed on anything other than the mess surrounding me so I'm going to go and start sorting through it again, my bins blooming full so that's not going to help either, they don't come till Wednesday either!  This tidying up lark is not easy, but I just keep thinking about how good it'll be when it's all gone.  When I can walk round my bedroom floor without tripping over things, when it's all nice and tidy.

Lots of work to do before we get there, so I'm off to start, hope all the Mothers out there get a rest today and of course spoilt!

No time to blog today ;)

25th March 2017
Own less, do more!

Just WOW!  That's all I can say, I was a blitzing beast yesterday, I cleared out so much stuff, you'd be proud of me!  Bless Bonnie, she's taken it all to have a car boot sale to make money for Cancer Research, she's doing Race for Life in June and a sponsored slim too, her first weigh in last night saw her lose 4lb, so off to a good start!

I can't tell you how good it feels, once I get passed the hard bit of letting go of something, to be seeing my house getting decluttered, it really is started to create some calmness in me.  There's still a lot to do, but we filled the back of Bonnies car twice yesterday with stuff, so you can imagine how much there was to start with.  I've halved my clothes, anything I hadn't worn in the last 12 month and even stuff that I really need to replace this summer, it's all gone.  I found out all my CDs, I have loads, but they're not going 'yet' I'm going to play one a day in my car for a few months, if I don't carry on doing it then they'll go.  They were the only thing I struggled with getting rid of.

This will be the theme for my weekend, blitzing stuff, I've even emptied a kitchen drawer which will now house utensils that were in a tub hanging off the wall, still got two or three more draws to sort, but it's a start.

I just love the idea of having less stuff, like I said yesterday less stuff means less to clean, less to organise, less to store, less mess, this sings to my soul right now!  I'll be decorating next - eek, I haven't done that in a very long time, but if I do my bedroom first it shouldn't cause too much disruption.

Something went wrong with my Waitrose order, I mustn't have pressed the last button although I'm sure I did, so I'm guessing its my internet connect, which hasn't been the best this week.  But anyway I didn't get my delivery after all, it was all still sitting in the basket waiting for checkout, it's all good though as I had a meal deal from M&S and some of their pizzas, so we're set for the weekend, I've changed my delivery slot for Monday so I'll have eaten a bit more of the freezer stuff by then hopefully.  Proper clear out all round!

Now I've got to rush because I've been messing about looking at 'bedroom ideas' on Pinterest when I should be blogging and getting ready for work :)  There's a glorious sunrise going on though that I have to just stop and marvel at, it's all pastel pinks and blues, really pretty.

Plan of action for today, my lovely meeting this morning, a nice massage to revive me, I'll be asking her to ease my aching joints and give me more energy to tackle the task at hand, no time for resting this weekend, I have a house to empty of stuff!

What you got planned?  Something enjoyable and/or fulfilling I hope.

What a mess!

24th March 2017
If it serves no purpose in your life and you don't love it, get rid of it!

Yesterday's lunch was freezer surprise, not a lot of food in the fridge so I took a tub of frozen leftovers out of the freezer not knowing what it was but it looked brown.  Turned out to be a beef stew and although it wasn't the best I'd ever made, that'd be the reason it made it into the freezer in the first place, it served a purpose and fed me.  Pay day weekend thankfully and I've got a food delivery coming this morning, I've ordered food that I can prepare quick and easy as I don't want to be spending ages cooking because I have other plans for my time.

Oh yes, my bestie has started something off in me and although it was painful at first - anything that takes you out of your comfort zone always is isn't it - I'm embracing it now and can't wait to get on with the clear out.  I've even been doing a little bit in the kitchen drawers whilst waiting for the kettle to boil - go me!  I'm having a weekend clear out, I'm decluttering because I've realised the easiest way to organise my stuff is to get rid of most of it. Hell yeah, I don't have so much to look through when I lose something if there isn't so much stuff there to start with.  Less stuff means less to clean, less to organise, less to store, less mess - I'm convinced.

As soon as I've got this blog done and everything I need to do my meeting tonight, I'm having me a few house sorting.  I might even paint my bedroom at some point if I can get it sorted enough, who knows I may even finish off decoupaging my winnie the poo rocking chair.

So some questions I've got to ask myself as I do this decluttering are;

1) Have I used this in the last year?
2) If I were shopping right now, would I buy this?
3) Is the only thing that's keeping me from throwing it away that I don't want to waste money.
4) Am I holding onto this for sentimental value (this is going to be my toughie!)
5) Do I have a similar item that serves the same purpose (I really only need so many pizza cutters!)
6) Does it fit me or my living space?

I know I'm going to struggle with some stuff, but I also know it makes sense, I'll have my besties voice in my head whilst I do it, but I'm not throwing my chocolate machine away, no matter how loud her voice gets, because I love it and things I love can stay.

I'll start in my bedroom, then do the kitchen drawers, then the last room is my office.  Downstairs has a good load of clutter too.  I've realised instead of clearing stuff we just buy another set of drawers or storage unit of some kind!  It has to stop!

If you're sitting there smug thinking 'my house is tidy, there is no clutter' go double check because I thought I didn't have much, but apparently organised clutter is still clutter!  Also clutter isn't just physical stuff, it's old ideas, toxic relationships and bad habits.  Clutter is anything that does not support you becoming your best version of yourself.

Now there's something for you to think about today, what's not supporting you becoming your best version of you?

I know the clutter in my house is having a huge effect but also I know my lack of, I'm not sure if it's organisation or routine, not sure of the word but basically not having a place for things really doesn't help me at all.  I'll spend ages looking for stuff which really winds me up and then sends me out in a grumpy mood, I can spend 5 minutes looking for my keys, this could be rectified if I picked a place to hang them when I come in and repeated that behaviour until it become a habit, heck I've managed to make pouring a pint of water each morning a habit and so many other things, so here's to creating new habits to make my life a little calmer and organised.

What could help you?  We going to have a good day BeYOUtiful?  Yeah, course we are - we got this. xx

Sorting my stuff...

23rd March 2017
Count your rainbows, not your thunderstorms
Mmm, sitting here not sure what to write, yesterday was a good day in every way, ate well, drank my water - I've got my new water bottle which I'll be carrying around with me to make sure I'm hydrated.  I'm eating the contents of the cupboard till payday, so yesterday I had a tin of chick pea & lentil dhal that's been in there for a year I bet, it was good too, it was 12sp for the can though!  Lunch was a pasta dish using tinned salmon which had also been in the cupboard a long time.  I might take a tub out the freezer and have suprise supper tonight when I get home, I won't know the points perfectly but I'll know it's a good meal and that's enough sometimes.

Yesterday my bestie came for a couple of hours, I fed her then she got me started on clearing the clutter in my bedroom, at first it was actually painful, but once I started doing it and started to listen to her reasoning, I started to enjoy it, half hour later and a black bin bag full!   Friday I plan to carry on and hopefully get rid of enough stuff so that I can actually store the store I do want to keep.  A drawer at a time will be my thought pattern for the rest of the house too, first my office then the kitchen drawers, it's ridiculous the stuff I've been keeping for 'just in case' or 'because it wasn't cheap'.  She might have to come back to remind me of the things she was saying yesterday, or maybe I'll get her on Facetime when I come to do it, just in case I struggle again.

If I keep it up though, my house will look as good as it now smells, that'll be nice!

CAULIFLOWER!  Apparently there's a bumper crop, I'm just listening to Radio 2, the papers are saying that there's been an early crop and they're asking us all to buy a cauliflower this weekend to help the farmers out, so let's do that shall we?   What can you do with it, well these days it's more like what can't you do with it!

They're making rice, pizza bases and all sorts with it these days, I do like a good cauliflower curry myself, I've never managed to get it as good as Abduls cauliflower bhaji but I can continue to try.  I enjoyed roasted cauliflower the other day, that was really good.

My sister made me this a few years ago, I might need to give it another try, you could use protein cheese instead of mozzarella maybe, it would bring the points down, to 5sp total.

Garlic cauliflower pizza 13sp

½ of a small/medium head of cauliflower
1 teaspoon olive oil (1sp)
2 cloves garlic, grated or minced
1 egg, lightly beaten (2sp)
100g grated solid mozzarella cheese (10sp)
½ teaspoon dried Italian herb seasoning
1 pinch each salt and pepper
Cooking spray

Preheat the oven to 180oC, gas mark 5 and line a baking tray with pan liner or greaseproof.

To “rice” the cauliflower, grate the cauliflower into a bowl and microwave uncovered until softened, about 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, cool slightly. While the cauliflower cooks, heat the oil in a small frying pan over low heat; add the garlic and cook until softened, approx 1 minute, stirring constantly; cool slightly.

To the bowl with the softened cauliflower, add the garlic, egg, ¾ of the cheese, ¼  tsp of the dried Italian herb seasoning), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir to combine and then spread on the baking tray in a rectangle shape.

Bake until the loaf is set and starting to turn golden, about 30 minutes.  Then cut into 8, slice and separate slightly, then sprinkle ¼ tsp seasoning & remaining cheese.  Pop under grill until brown.

Eat straight away or if you can resist wait for it to cool a little!

Yeah I think I need to have a go at this again, or maybe just good old fashioned cauliflower cheese using a packet mix and protein cheese, after all it's only 7sp for the block!

Then there's this idea http://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a51638/cauliflower-grilled-cheese-recipe/

That could be done with protein cheese for sure!  Tasty!

Right moms just surfaced, I'm off to refill my water bottle ready for work and of course have a sneaky mug of tea first and a bit of breakfast.

Here's to another great day, BeYOUtiful we got this!
